Finally, our new Wine Group ‘popped it’s cork’ with the experienced Nick Yates helping to set up the first meetings. For the first two months he supported us and gave us a chance to settle in….
August was the first month that one of us took on the task of doing the selection of wines and presentation. We had an evening of Rose wines from as far away as Adelaide and California and with either a single grape or in one case five grapes. These were matched with some interesting and unusual cheeses bought from the Friday Market. The final decision was that The Beach by Whispering Angel, a Provencal Rose with a classic mix of grapes, was the favourite and this was followed by Bird in the Hand, 75% Pinot Noir, from Adelaide and Chapel Down English Rose, 100% Pinot Noir second and third respectively. Mateus Rose was not as we all remembered it or perhaps our taste has matured! The group is finding it’s feet, but it’s been a great deal of fun and even some of us saying that we would start looking at rose wines more often.
