RNLI Lifeboat Crew Training Collage, Poole

Event type: Social
Date: 21st October 2026
Time: 09:00
Organiser:
Cost: £30.00
Booking: Note that booking is required.

You may feel you are too old to train to become an RNLI Lifeboat Crewman, but why not join us on this fascinating tour to see at first-hand the rigorous training provided at the RNLI College in Poole! Watch trainees learning important drills such as righting a capsized lifeboat (pictured above) and perhaps take a ride in the Lifeboat Simulator. Cost £30 per person to cover coach travel and the 90-minute guided walking tour round the college and its training facilities. And remember, if you came on our Royal Mint trip last year, and have not yet used your £10 refund voucher, you can use it towards your booking for this trip!

We will leave Warminster at 9:00 and be back by about 17:00. At Poole we will split into two groups; one will enjoy the RNLI tour in the morning and the other group will have their tour in the afternoon. When not on the RNLI tour your time is your own – perhaps explore the nearby Poole Museum and/or RNLI’s own Lifeboat Museum – or embark on one of several local small boat cruises around Poole harbour or even along the Jurassic Coast to Swanage and back.

To book your place on our coach, please contact Stewart Buckingham, the Social Secretary. Alternatively, Stewart will also be taking names at the July General Meeting at the Civic Centre this Wednesday - but if you know you want to go, why risk being too late to get a seat when it is so easy to email me now!

Our preferred method of payment is by online transfer to our Warminster U3A account (sort code 30-99-13, account number 01347585). Please use your surname and "RNLI" as the reference.

If you are unable to pay by transfer, please drop me an email to advise me of your intended method of payment:-

  • You can pay by card at the July or August General Meeting (2pm at Warminster Civic Centre);
